'The Hummingbird' is a relief, hand sculpted panel. The design is an homage to Wangari Maathai, the Kenyan environmental activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner for her work in re-forestation and community action. It depicts a Kenyan sunbird, from her short story 'The Hummingbird', sitting in a Kenyan Croton tree, the seeds of which are a newly developed biofuel. |
'Wangari Maathai'

'Wangai Maathia' is a relief hand sculpted panel. The design is an homage to the environmental work undertaken by Wangari Maathai in terms of the reforestation in Kenya, and her founding of the Green Belt movement. The central motif is based on a 19th Century image of a Croton seed, which is beiong developed as a new biofuel in Kenya. The decorative semi circles either side are relief interpretations of an African fabric, similar to that that Wangari Maathai could have worn |
