Oxfam 'Costume Heads'
|
Dot Young has been sculpting and producing the 'Costume Heads' of the current G7, G8 & G20 world leaders, in a freelance capacity for many years. It has been an ongoing contract that she enjoys alongside her studio work.
The campaign work undertaken by Oxfam internationally and at the global summits across the world each year are a high profile media event. Dot supports Oxfam through her sculpting, and enjoys the collaboration with Oxfam. It is one of the ongoing contracts she values as a way of actively supporting the issues that Oxfam highlight in their campaigning. |
Additional commercial work includes Venetian mask making, based on traditional sustainable Venetian fabrication processes studied with a traditional family business in Venice, using 'Carta de Lana' (wool base paper sourced from Florence) gesso and bitumen.
The traditional processes are increasingly being superseded by modern plastic formed imported masks, so she is keen to hold on and promote the value in the traditional sustainable 'paper' techniques historically used, sustainable and biodegradable.
